little moons

on metal sticks

line the asphalt path

to steer the snaking cars

winding through the streets

to the grind of work

to fill their pockets with

little full moons;

only to have the powers that be

cut them into waning moons

and fill their own pockets

with stolen slivers.

and the moon in the sky

goes through its cycles silently

witnessing this... and saying nothing.
