Starting over from a vanilla install of Windows, so I need to reinstall all the 3rd part apps, but at least all my repos are still there...

Maybe time to consider a change to a linux distro?
...I wish. Fiat mine is 100% MSFT. MS Project, Excel, and (especially) VBA are my bread and butter.
I mean, load linux (gnome), move to a new workspace, load a windows Virtual machine and profit?
Windows vm can then be more easily backed up, etc. You using specific hardware that needs to be passed through ?
Anyways , keep fighting the good fight any way you can buddy
