Unpopular opinion:
Bullying creates homogeny.
Homogeny is unity.
When i was a kid, i had to spend a ridiculous amount if time learning to fit in. Our current school system encourages people to be proud of their differences or oddities and to celebrate them.
It does not work.
Make Bullying Great Again
I'm not talking about extreme examples of it but a little teasing and bullying I think does help.
Of course not. I was a youth lacrosse coach for years. You are SPOT on. People want to fit in.
Teaching them to “not care” is lying to yourself. It manifests in very bad ways throughout our society as can be seen in US cities. I live in a much more rural area where conservative values are still the norm and guess what? Normal kids 🤯

I raised chickens a few years back. The weak one always got pecked to death by the rest of them. When the weak one died, a new weak one was appointed by the chickens and the cycle continued.
The pecking order is some deep biology built on millions of years of natural selection. I dont think the schools have a chance of stopping that train.
I have had12-15 chickens a few lame ducks and 6-8 turkeys.
Ive seen this behavior but ive never seen it terribly often.
Weird.
Truuuuue. I’d be careful analogising human systems to chickens too much. Those mofos came for dinosaurs. We’re prosocial apes. We have our own way of doing hierarchy, with our own brand of cruelty.
There is definitely functional bullying. But there’s also dysfunctional bullying.
To take the school example, there’s an intrinsic cruelty from groups of well adjusted kids that is probably useful. Then there’s unfettered abuse from unfortunate kids who are themselves abused, and this is almost certainly dysfunctional and destructive to the system as a whole.
Weeding out the healthy bullying from the pathological is the nuance we actually need.

Its a tricky business to balance.
I don’t envy a parent with a kid that gets bullied. It would break my heart.
Its life though. Sheltering just makes them less equipped for the real world and allowing it feels heartless and cruel.
