I still find the Bitcoin vs. crypto name distinction unclear. Bitcoin is cryptographically backed, so it falls under the category of cryptocurrencies. Maybe it’s better to think of Bitcoin as cryptographically backed ‘money’ rather than ‘currency’?

And yes I understand the differences between Bitcoin and other forms of currencies and/or money or altcoins/shitcoins but Bitcoin is essentially backed by cryptocurrency and it being a currency that should label it a cryptocurrency.

But again maybe cyptomoney is a better term to fit the bill.

Definitionally, you are correct. Bitcoin is cryptocurrency. But it’s different than all other cryptocurrencies, and needs its own vernacular.

Also, mainstream media always conflates bitcoin and the rest of crypto. Which is why bitcoiners push back and like to draw a distinction.
