Make it really casual and potluck style. You’ll still cook something but will take the pressure off of making the whole meal. Therefore it will be more likely to happen. Years and years ago one summer I did a weekend breakfast. It started because I wanted biscuits and gravy but didn’t know how to not make them for a crowd. It organically turned into a weekly thing. Some people brought food. Some people helped with clean up. It just worked.

yeah i guess what i was thinking to myself was how can i make this happen without making it feel like an obligation to other people.

It was never obligatory. We never knew how many people would come. In my favor most of the people were in their 20’s. The apartment was in the heart of the mission district in San Francisco and it had a big living/dining room that opened onto the kitchen. It was so rare for anyone to have space in their home to host anything.

Eating was also never at a set time. Try to make something that can either be served cold or keeps well on a warmer. We’d just be hanging out at the house for a few hours. If it was a gorgeous day. We might leave a note on the door to come find us at Dolores Park.
