What I will never understand is why the first bitcoin releases only supported Windows.

No serious coder used Windows in 2009. This whole thing must be a NSA psyop.

I mean the reason seems obvius to me, its because it made it more accesible for more people.

And then since he prolly had some VM setup wiht windows he continued to use it for all Bitcoin things to keep his privacy compartimentalised.

Back in 2009 everything Microsoft (or IBM) was a good government indicator, however your take sounds somewhat reasonable. Also Open Office for the whitepaper is a good signal.
