But the grants will fully end in September.

Of course the funds for the grants come from taxes and money printing.

There is no free lunch.

It actually makes the situation worse.

If people were able to see the actual market price of gas rising in real time, they could have made decisions such as giving up on buying a new car because the current one is just fine.

Messing with price signals is just bad and it is so pervasive that it is hard for people to make rational economic decisions anymore.
