The nail that sticks out will be hammered down

The nail that sticks out will be hammered down
Japanese proverb
whats the meaning?
I think you stay humble
i wonder if the rulers of this world live by that axiom or if they just propogate it to #plebs
it reminds me if Nietzsche and what he said about slave mentality. are you familiar with what im describing from Nietzsche?
I think they don’t follow this proverb, maybe someone, but every person select what to follow 🤷♂️
About slave mentality of Nietzsche, I don’t read about, but stay humble (not excessively, all in excess is bad) is different to be a slave
agreed. its a very interesting proverb. is the author a buddhist? those monks like to play mind tricks and fun word games 🙂
You already know hahaha
Humble does not mean a brave man feigning weakness, an intelligent woman pretending to be average, a magnificent dancer being purposely graceless or bit coiners being quiet in their hope and joy.
Humility starts with compersion. The joy felt in the abilities and accomplishments of others. Humility is a team sport for high achievers. The thing that govs promote as humility is servility. Luckily they don't get to tell me what words mean.
If you know how ro apply this, you don’t have problem. Each government uses and modifies some concepts for its convenience, the trick is not to fall in your game
The hand that swings a hammer at me better kill me or imma cut it off and feed it to the owner.
My Proverb
I think the meaning is about the importance of staying humble, but I understand your point of view
The proverb assumes that I have submitted to be governed by something or someone other than my conscience. The proverb is an insult to a free spirit.
Stay humble is different to be slave
not according to that proverb. In that proverb there is a hammer and a hammer wielder and there is me. If there is hammering going on and I am not hammering anybody then somebody is threatening to hammer me. Not slavery but not cool and very presumptious to assume the role of hammer weilder.
BTW. this has nothing to do with you personally lol. I actually like this convo and find you interesting. But I dislike that proverb. It implies and promotes servility and group think in my narrow experience and humble opinion.
Don’t worry bro, in a debate we all learn. I understand your point of view, I just think it is correct but very literal interpretation. Mine is more simpler: stay humble (humble ≠ slave)
But I think our debate makes clear the message of non-submissive 🤝
And I understand the intent of the proverb. Unfortunately also understand the mentality of Empire whales. Those words are too often misinterpreted to their favor.
