X is a company. To operate in Turkey they need to follow the rules in Turkey.
Why does he obey in Türkiye but not in Brazil if his commitment is to free speech, as he himself says ???
They folded in Brazil too.
You have to choose your battles. If he makes a stand out of principle, that is very fine and commendable, but then besides the fines, the service is unavailable in the entire country (and yeah VPNs but in Brazil it was also a crime to circumvent the ban, and if you were posting, obviously you were circumventing).
By going along, at least the service remains available for everyone else. It's better than nothing.
Companies will always be vulnerable to State tyranny because they need to be legal to operate, it is what it is.
