Nostrgram is currently the best-performing client I know but it's closed source (at least I saw no claims to the contrary) and all events run through their servers instead of being served directly from the respective relays I think. This would improve performance as the client would not have to download redundant events many times over.

For some, this is worrysome but notifications like the above at least sound reassuring that all this is done with the nostr-ethos in mind:

Nobody depends on nostrgram or its servers. If they kick me today, nothing is lost.

If I understand the notification right, I can download all the events that would get witheld from others if they ever decided to ban me and people that disagree with them banning me, could always find me via relays that I can send my events to easily with this and other clients.

I am not worried. Nostr's future is bright. 🤙

Actually, I just had an idea. We can have relays of relay. One server would just subscribe to a bunch of relays. Deduplicate, cache, etc. Then clients would need to have less relays to subscribe too. Anyone would be able to run relays to relays and it will be completely open.
