You ask good questions. The answers are not clear. The propaganda machine says they're still fighting and a peace deal is getting meaningful close.
I suspect everyone involved has some desire to end before Christmas because wouldn't that just be Hollywood perfect for their egos. "We saved Christmas. Peace on Earth."
