Something like that (it is not a quote of a particular person) was the belief of a lot of people as the Internet was coming online.
Niall Ferguson wrote a book about how utterly wrong that sentiment was. Some great comparisons to the 300 years of religious conflict sparked by the invention of the printing press. I guess History proves that nothing under the sun is new.
