I'm syncing mine up right now. I had one on umbrella initially but could never get it to work correctly. This time, I did the backend work on a lightweight distro and installed monerod to it with tor configuration. I'm about to do the same thing with my littles
Yeah, ive always done mine with screen and the interactive session

./start (a start script i wrote)
Ctrl+A, D to disconnect from the screen
