This i can get behind, but what are the alternatives for small operators?
I have faith in your opinions being well thought out, so Im hoping you can elaborate or point me to where you already have, because CloudFlare is a big part of how i provide the QoS I strive to.
How are you using it? To obfuscate source IPs? CDN?
DDoS prevention, and caching with Argo, image compression, and tiered cache.
My one little server delivers images way above its batting weight for little cost. It’s a compelling offering.

DDoS protection is pretty common. There are alternatives to using a steeply discounted private network for the others. I am working on an alternative with pleb.cloud using Tier 1 colocations, with Montreal and Los Angeles first. All to ween off of AWS, which is not even as much of a black box as Cloudflare. I think nostr and the related ecosystem can benefit from putting as much focus on infrastructure architecture as on clients. 🤙
