I don't think Trump and his minions don't understand it. They were just never for free speech.
Dear #right, #conservative #US citizens. I am not considering myself right leaning. And I would not say anything like it. I am no supporter of #trump or anything like it.
But with current events, like Trump requesting loyal massmedia stations, every person who likes to live in freedom, should be highly concerned. And the people who support Trump are defnitly those, which can explain the issue with that to him the best way. The way he understands it.
Freedom of speech means to accept ideas, one does not support. Or even expressions, that directly demonstrate myself in a bad light. Do you remember #JDvance in Munich? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPZAtf3VRWI)
When Vance means what he says, than hopefully he is concerned about his president who says:
"all they do is hit Trump. They're licensed. They're not allowed to do that." (Donald Trump 18th September 2025)

Yes about Tump I have no doubt. But I am certain, that a big amount of his voters are full on pro free speech.
And I would be so happy, when people start to stand up for values, not for politicians or paries.
Freedom of speech is a center topic. And everyone who is pro democracy is in favor of free speech. So it is not at all about choosing sides. Just choosing what we value for our society.

Oh, for sure, especially if you are talking about a big gross amount rather than a percentage.
A big part of it is the fact that in the two-party system of the US you don't need to like or agree with one party to vote it, you just need to despise it less than the other party.
I do agree that free speech is a core aspect of democracy. The highest authority is the common mob, the highest chamber the population as a whole. Speech is a crucial form of power the people ought to be allowed to exercise.
