As an experiment, yesterday I started a new npub nostr:npub1zyaf6hnwdn9kl97tlgqswqtsp395t08uh9r2kty5fqec6hy8x0mqje8aze where I muted everyone I could find using paid relays (including myself) or paid NIP-05 addresses.

Early result: there's almost nothing left but bots after this. However, some of the remaining npubs and posts are pretty interesting.

Over the past hour, I've reposted a lot of the ones I could find this morning. (I can't confirm whether these people have paid for relays/NIP-05; I just didn't see them doing it)

Well, I'm not paying for relays. 😂

It looks like you were accidentally muted too. I don't recognize the nostr.pt NIP-05 but I don't see anything indicating it's a paid subscription service

I wonder if paid relays have notes mixed in from non-paid users. I originally tested this by reposting a note from the test npub with my paid Primal npub and it didn't show up in Primal's paid relay feed, but maybe other cases are different.

It might be tricky to manage this properly

I appreciate the work! Learning as much as I can.

see you over there, i was just checking to see if that account is real 😹

I plan to continue running that experiment over time if I can, but I'm really not sure how accurate the methodology is (going through paid relay feeds muting every non-repost npub)
