Do you have any recommended reading for a novice on how to coinjoin? A lot of cold wallets I see now have a coinjoin wallet option, is it that simple or is there more to it?

One cannot CoinJoin from a Cold Wallet at present, unless you make that wallet hot to CoinJoin and then make it "cold" again afterwards (tho IMO once Hot always Hot).
