Who has coordinated an IRL exchange of physical goods over Nostr so far? Who has done so in a trustful way where funds were exchanged or good purchased in advance of delivery due to logistical constraints in spacetime?
Discussion
If no one can point to a good example, consider this an open offer to purchase 1-3 bottles of alcohol from this establishment in Paso Robles (they have craft gin, rum, and a whiskey). I can deliver IRL in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, or Los Angeles (west side), or anywhere on drive from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles..
Terms:
- offer valid for next two hours
- delivery fee of 100k sats
- delivery fee and 50% of goods cost paid up front
- balance paid upon delivery
- confirmation to be made over DMs to have a bit of plausible deniability that the agreement took place
- delivery within 1 week (assuming LA)
What are the counterparty risks?
1. I could run off with the initial fees and fail to deliver, but this would greatly damage my reputation, and you can easily observe that I am invested in this "ID" quite a bit and that I would not exchange it to rugpull in this quantity.
2. You could decide to not honor the agreement and not pay balance, refusing delivery, but then I keep the deposit and bought myself alcohol at half off, a risk I'll accept.
I think this is a good test case since it likely violates a number of laws, this being California and distribution/sale of alcohol is regulated, but it is not illegal to the extent of hard drugs. Additionally, since there is no central operator behind this exchange (not organized crime), law enforcement cannot systemically stop this sort of action in a cost effective way.
My pseudonymity here is fairly weak... but it's not about it being perfect, it's about what you can get away with. Similarly, I think we can get away with trusting each other in this sort of exchange without feeling the need to operate within the legal protections of the state.
To become ungovernable, find the comfort in the probabilistic and the illegible.
