Now that I’m here, I can’t believe how much having decent savings changes things. Derisks consequences of a bad job, a bad relationship, a bad lease, bad health, literally most bad situations, you can just walk away unscathed and you are freed up from anxiety and fallout costs so you can do better at everything you need to do.

I can’t believe so many of my colleagues got here with the knowledge that they had a huge safety net from their parents if things went wrong. We were playing for completely different stakes. They were playing Candy Crush and I was in the goddamn Hunger Games this whole time.

Makes me appreciate what I started with even more knowing a lot more folks had far less, too.
