Yesterday I assembled my orange friend. Not sure if I’m happy with this case, may look into others, but it’ll do for now.
Should I put Start9 or umbrel on it? And why?

I haven’t tried Start9 but I left Umbrel around the time v0.5 came out, rolled my own setup using docker in Proxmox containers, then got frustrated and burned it all down because it was brittle. I came back to Umbrel this week at v1.2 and wow it has improved a lot. I say it’s worth checking out.
My other node is running umbrel, maybe I should try start9
Have used both, as a more casual tech person I find Umbrel easier to approach and use. Start9 is more customizable and has more possibilities because of it, but you have to know your way around a computer to utilize them.
Also what are you doing with this? Mining? Just running a node? 👀
Just a node for now, but will think what else I can do. I was thinking raid sata nas too
#proxmox
I run both and tbh i like start9 more, worth checking out for sure, but it's still tor-only (until soon™), so if you need clearnet-connections you might wanna stick to umbrel for now.
Reminds me of the cheese grater Mac !
If you value privacy, full control, and modularity more, Start9 might be the better choice.
If you're looking for an easier-to-use solution with a user-friendly interface, Umbrel may be more appealing.
If the idea is to expand your "orange friend" to run multiple services beyond Bitcoin, Start9 can offer more flexibility.
If you’re willing to put in a little extra time and effort, Start9 is 100% the way to go. If you want an “easy button” and more hands off approach, then Umbrel is probably more your jam. For me, the edge went to Start9 for the docs and support. Significantly better than Umbrel IMO.
Yeah, it looks good in theory, but is a little too old skool Meccano for my tastes. 😉
