Has the House Judiciary Committee ever read the constitution? Sounds like they haven't. Otherwise they would know that the constitution protects American speech from the government and has no impact on what PRIVATE companies choose to publish or not publish via the products and services THEY OWN.
Sounds like the republican clains of "Small government" and "less government regulation" only apply incertain cases, like de-regulating corporations to let the polute and otherwise ruin the environemnt, price-gouge, and do other ani-consumer practices. But when it comes to expanding the role of govt and drafting up regulation that benifits their own political agenda (like, in this case, shitting on the former administration's actions), they are all for "Big Government" and more regulation.
If people want free speech, ditch the corporate-controlled, centralized platforms and go to Nostr. Spin up your own relay and write your own app or choose one that suits your free speech needs.
There will always be sheep who will sell out their consumer rights and free speech for cool toy and a nice algorythm. Let them.
Also, why is it "foreign censorship" that they're worried about? Are they not Americans? Should they not be more concerned with cracking down on domestic censorship? Of course not. They want to censor things that go against their own agenda but they want to be percieved as "against censorship" so they focus on censorship "over there" to distract from the censorship they may enact right here.
