I quote I liked and was reminded of today. To me it means something like...

In our daily lives we are sometimes treated cruelly by others and while we may need to be cruel in return as life dictates we could strive to not let that treatment by others lead us to hate for those that hurt us.

Instead pray for them in whatever fashion you choose and wish them love. At a high spiritual level you are brothers helping eachother via the concept of catalyst to be able to learn some karmic lesson.
