So basically you use either private key 2 or private key 3 to challenge private key 1. If private key 1 is active it can reject the challenge but if it doesn't reject the challenge after 30 days then private key 2 gets control of public key 1 (aka your history). In that case private key 2 is active with public key 1. Something like that.
