Finally got around to pushing the edit to this piece. If you read it before it was a ruff, first draft. I don't consider this update to be all that significant but I think it settles as a completed essay now.
I will add that the theme of racism has been a particularly poignant revelation for myself as a "white" convert. Much sectarianism is rooted in deep racism and this spiritual disease often results in lack of humanity and great violence. Any civilization that goes down the path of racism has sown the seeds of its own demise despite any temporal gains it may boast.
