Almost everything in life is marketing.

To get a partner: you need to market yourself.

To get a job: you need to market yourself.

To get a flat: you need to market yourself.

Most of the time, it is not enough to be cool. You have to give a good impression, which can be viewed as marketing.

Of course, there are cases where what you do matters, but usually if you work with/for people, they have to like you to be able to reach what you want. So anything that requires communication between people most probably requires marketing.
