calheta is way over to the west... here up in the north is where the best surfing waves can be found... today, even, the waves down at the beach where the cleft of the valley opens out to the sea i could hear the crash of waves even in the afternoon, and it's usually not that noisy... and there was breakers all up towards the horizon and clear bumpy swell... as i understand it, northern madeira coast is where you surf
