Antichrist shows up after “The Great Apostasy” that Paul mentions in the letter to the church in thesalonica.
I would suggest we are currently knee deep in the great apostasy as there are many “false christs” or false anointed ones running around claiming to be prophets and apostles who receive direct revelation from God. The NAR, new apostolic reformation is an embodiment of this movement. C Peter Wagner, and company.
In Pauline theology, the temple of god is the church, the body of Christ.
Antichrist will arise out of the visible Christian church and proclaim himself to be God.
Tie this back to the great apostasy in the previous verse, and christs warning in Matthew 24 about false christs (pseudochristoi) and false prophets.
