I think in a future decades it can actually come back and finally be a relevant thing, but so far it has always been nonsence.

One argument against is always faster bloat of blockchain data, if blocks are bigger. If blockchain data growth is reasonable, it is easier and more affordable for everyone to run own node, which is good for network decentralization.
