my home internet was going down multiple times a day every day for the past week, so I created some ping/monitoring scripts to track exactly when and how long and on which devices.

after I started running the script I shit you not it's been like 3 days and the internet stopped going down. what kind of Schrödinger's cat bs is this.

The only logical conclusion at this point is that the ping script is keeping my network alive

You’re probably not on Fiber aren’t you? I have seen this behavior way back, that’s one of the reason the keep alive feature was actually created :)

👌✌️

That's not an uncommon type of technical fault actually. Often things like low power modes have bugs that cause dropped connections; periodically transmitting avoids going into those bugged modes. I've run into this type of big myself a few times.

Coincidence is probably why it's working now. But it could definitely be the pings too.

I am on the opossite side. I am pretty sure that if I start too many Tor connections my ISP either crashes or actively reduces bandwidth.

they do this to me when I start torrenting, even over VPN :[

I've done measurements to confirm it. they will throttle the shit out of me when I do, in a way thats not explained by bandwidth exhaustion. so much for net neutrality.

bastards!

I need my own ISP...

+1

what you need:

- money

- more money

- even more money

this sounds awfully similar to what I need

I suspected the same for a long time with my VPN connection. Are they trying to create reconnects so they can better track your activity? Timestamp when your services go up/down?

Router probably can't keep up with the connection table. Same for torrents.

my symptoms of unknown disorders will surface when there’s simply no internet

i noticed sum stuff & thought i might be nutz! t-y Will

I hate it when my router begins to die because intermittent connectivity is so frustrating

That’s because the Fuzz was watching you and now that you started watching back, they bugged out. 👀

The universe is just screwing with you.

I've been having this issue for a month or two and it's really frustrating. My current router is 22 months old. It's still under warranty for another 2 months. But honestly, I don't know if an RMA is going to fix the issue. It's been incredibly solid until recently though. I really don't want to buy another router.

pings to my gateway work fine when its down just not to the external network. so its either an internal fault that I can't see on my router or there's a serious problem between my house and the uplink point.

For a while I thought it was someone DDoSing one of my services, but I believe this is not the case.

Hmm. Maybe I'll run a ping test and see what happens. I can't even diagnose shit because the router nukes it's local system log each time it randomly rebooted.

yes I wonder if because my lightning node is exposed that it is getting ddos'd occasionally, or there is some failsafe on the ISP side that stops the attack but also takes down my internet

ISPs have shit infrastructure

my ISP does not give v6 to even their business customers even though they could

what year is it

they even announce IPv6 routes.

Heh. I thought you hated v6. Also I've thought about disabling v6 to see if that's what's causing it.

Oh, I do hate it. But also I hate it less than NAT.

I have a /32 on my home network for an additional 2$.

I assume v4

(I think the way i wrote this is misleading)

I have one v4 and 2³² v6

so a /96… wtf? 😂

Standard allocation should be /64, no?

For the isp, yes. they have one

I won't complain, 'cause I can barely use like a 100

The ole keepalive ping…

Run smokeping

They are afraid that you sue them

Most ISPs are shared bandwidth .. I am pretty sure they have sophisticated throttling tools ..

The ping is the network.

Now you just need to sell your script as an internet stabilizer.

Pingstr

a.k.a. Heisenbug

Healthchecks.io for the win!

what the actual fuck

It’s still up! wtf indeed

Can you write this, but for nostr relays?

cc nostr:npub1uac67zc9er54ln0kl6e4qp2y6ta3enfcg7ywnayshvlw9r5w6ehsqq99rx

pretty sure nostr.wine has a relay uptime bot

RelayGuardian.com - its free too!
