Even if you consume zero carbs, your body can manufacture glucose (gluconeogenesis). The brain functions better on ketones than glucose though anyway.

It’s more efficient for athletes to take carbs instead of waiting for gluconeogenesis

This Samoan chief ate fish, meat, coconut , root vegetables and tropical fruit all year round. He never fasted or limited carbohydrates. He never went to the gym and did little physical work.

He got a ton of sunlight.
