Ten31 invested in primal over a year ago, and primal (iOS) is consistently the slowest/just doesn’t work nostr social client I’ve used.

As a regularly shared/newbie go-to client, I’m curious how many it’s turned away just by not working. Not being able to cover the basics in over a year seems unacceptable, especially for a client taking in so much funding. I’m sure I’ll get hate on this, but whatever. Nostr is really fucking important (imo). Where are the standards for funding in this space?

What’s going on?

It’s because they are using a radically different model than other clients. It does not connect to multiple relays, it connects to their one custom caching server which isn’t a nostr relay. So if it goes down the whole app goes down. Brittle and takes away user agency on what relays the user can connect to.

Hopefully primal 2.0 switches to a model which is less brittle and more like a normal nostr client.

Does it do this with the web app as well? I do find the web-app does work reasonably well.

from what i understand all their apps do this, but maybe one of their engineers could correct me

Thanks for the explanation!

Likely running out of cash. I don't know how can will keep 3 separate client codebases going without another round of funding.

I am sure investors are not happy either. After all, they are losing all of their money if it keeps going like that.

Best looking client, stellar built-in wallet, train wreck of functionality.

It would be like the cashapp/bitkey of nostr clients…but without the final execution

Everyone has different experiences. Primal is often the most reliable for me.

I only do nostr on web clients: Primal, Nostrudel, & Coracle. All three work well for me in different ways. Primal's been really reliable.
