Audience capture is real, and further I would say it is bigger than many realize.

My sci fi novel touches on this. People fracturing into their own digital tribes.

My personal kneejerk approach tends to break audience capture (eg I start to feel it and then purposely post something that angers them and punches me in the face and we all drink a beer afterward), but I view audience capture as being the new dominant problem going forward vs weaksauce mainstream propaganda.

The individual protection of this is mainly to follow people who you like but that sometimes disagree with you. Seek out smart disagreements.

By doing that, you resist the urge to follow only whoever aligns with your view.

I think this emerges in any group. An individual is idiosyncratic and group less so in proportion to its size. If you want a cohesive audience, group or community there will always be some emergent norms associated with it.
