Depends on the hardware you are using. If it's a Rpi the power supply unit doesn't have the juice to power more than one external drive. If you get something like the embassy pro, it can.

Looking at the specs online, I'd say yes, you can run external ssd off it. It also comes in 1, 2 and 4 TB options.
