These are nice numbers but isn't it too beautiful to be true? It's a huge change to achieve not only within a year but probably longer period of time. People don't change that fast

What did the government do? What changes did they implement? I hope it's not a change of how they measure that

And of course it's shady

https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/el-salvador-says-murders-fell-70-2023-it-cracked-down-gangs-2024-01-03/

"Justice and Security Minister Gustavo Villatoro said 154 murders were committed [2023], down from 495 the year before.

That implies a homicide rate of 2.4 per every 100,000 people, which Villatoro said was the lowest in the Americas apart from Canada."

This would mean 1.9 at the end of the year only 0.5 difference (but then 2023 would still have this improvement)

But

"But human rights groups have said the crackdown has included abuses such as torture, deaths in custody and arbitrary detentions."

And

"Human rights groups have reported 190 deaths and over 5,000 abuses related to the crackdown."

I am once again disappointed with your reporting it. It was basically copy-paste of official propaganda. You can do better

They simply reassigned murders from gangs to the police and so on paper the numbers look nicer
