I like to tell people that the code is easily changeable and anyone can do it, but then it's no longer Bitcoin and it's something completely different. Then, tell them about all of the completely different flavors of Bitcoin and show how they've failed as proof that while anyone can change the code, making that new code replace the current Bitcoin and become the new Bitcoin isn't as easy and would probably never happen.
