Ah yes, the Fediverse… a conglomerate of bitcoin-hating, state-worshiping, vaccinations-defending trump haters whenever I visit it.
And a well established music and FOSS community... I self host so rarely suffer with issues many have and I've made good friends there but I'm probably 60/40 my time here now... and starting to see some music makers find their way here, which is very cool.
Hopefully between us we can work out good self hosting solutions for indie music makers. Zaps are brilliant for music makers, direct support from listeners = massive win.
But to answer you: I think you are right. For sure it‘s mainly fabricated, it is advertisement and obviously the campaign is still running. (I am even helping it by sharing funny memes about it).
