Yeah, that's the part I don't love, but it's probably inevitable.

All weekend I heard, "pick better relays" as the dicks were flying. When a newcomer comes on board, why wouldn't they pick Damus and Primal as their relays? They are two of the most popular clients, why wouldn't their relays be higher quality too? So if someone was to break away from them, how would they actually determine a good relay without some terms. Wine does a pretty good job with this, the rest, not so much.

both damus and primal counted on their clients to block the dicks as far as I understand but their relays carried the content for a while. now the relays seem to be fixed as well or the spammer went to sleep. wine was the best. lol got fixed on saturday. imo newcomers wont be able to play with the relay settings. it all depends on client devs, which relays to set as default. there is still nobody that objectively posts about relays and their strengths and weeknesses. coracle seems to be best at looking at what is going on in individual relays and managing the relays.
