There's been a bi-partisan partnership between government and corporations since 9-11.
If that partnership was severed, the government would be unable to collect enough taxes to pay the interest on the debt.

It's been gradually so far. I think the more the empire tries to bully other countries, the more trading partners will shift away from the empire. Aka the less demand for US treasures and services, the more use that comes back home
