I was inspired by @tinker@infosec.exchange to experiment with indoor growing.

My abomination was made entirely from things I had around the house:

1. Wide mouth quart jar

2. 3D printed net cup

3. Dirt/compost (50/50)

4. Toilet paper to hold the dirt in

5. Compost tea

I was going to plant spinich, but I couldn't find the seeds, so I went with stevia. I'm going to wait and see how this goes before trying another plant.

Germination in 7-21 days

Sounds like it'll still be a baby plant at 3 months.

After 7 days the soil remains wet, but there's no sign of germination. I added a little water and it tore through the toilet paper, so I think that part is going to work as intended.

If they germinate, the next question is whether they will be able to grow roots down to the water fast enough that they can drink before the water level drops below the dirt.

If so, the dirt will dry out and the plant should be good to go.

No indication this is going to sprout. 🫤

I had the same problem in the dirt last time, but it sprouted outdoors in the attempt before that.

Might be too cold, might be that the seeds are too old. I'll let it go for another week or so, then I'm going to just mark that packet as outdoor only. If they don't work out there, then it'll be time to order fresh seeds and make sure that we make them grow quickly so we can collect our own seeds next time around!

I'm giving up on this hydroponic stevia. I also had trouble getting mint started indoors (I know, right?), but when I chucked some seeds in a pot, set it outside and then ignored it, it did just fine. So maybe stevia will enjoy the great outdoors in this same manner.

Next up, I'm trying spinach in this same setup. Sown today, just now. Seed packet said 85% germination rate and I planted 2 seeds. No details on germination time, but it said 50 days to harvest.

The old lady next door gave us some of her mint (a couple of clippings) & we’ve been trying to do everything to keep it alive indoors over winter… the struggle is real…

Mine died off when I brought it in. I watered it for a while and thrn gave up

But then, after months of absolute neglect (no water, no grow lights, not near a window), I saw some thing sprouting in that pot. Some of it was goldenrod, but some was the mint, seemingly back from the dead! So I think I'm set for life on this front.

I plan on propagating it in the foreseeable future. After I have a few, well established pots for myself, I'd be happy to share.

I accidentally let mint into my garden once & it took my 3 years to get ride of it.

I put it in pots outside. I know better.

I learned my lesson lmfao
