Learning ASL has def been one of the best skills I’ve ever picked up

In high school, I was taking Latin. I found out that my teacher also taught ASL. My friend and I both took 2 years of ASL in high school, then 1 more year in college.
We would practice outside of class everyday and would sign with each other instead of speaking.
That was in 1997-1998.

That is so cool you took that much ASL in HS (and have retained it)!! Do you still sign?
I definitely still sign at every opportunity! I found out that a woman I work with at a local soup kitchen was an interpreter and we sign regularly.
I also try to introduce myself and offer to help if I see people signing in stores as well. It’s a great feeling to be able to help.
