I find that understanding the word helps to break free from unnecessary self inflicted castigation. The gospel is good news because of the Liberty you receive in Christ.
Demands for obedience does not sit well with me.

"The word" is a very broad historical text. Obedience to the word could mean anything.
When I question the loose term "obedience" I am not fighting anything. I am indirectly challenging you to define in more specific context why you believe we should be obedient, how should obedience be exercised and to what end.
The why, how and howcome, if you will.
Then to the amusment of everyone who reads some interesting thoughts and ruminations might occur.
I challenge you to assert yourself in your convictions.
