Category 2 Tropical Cyclone Alfred swirls near the Queensland-NSW border coast, posing a rare and potentially historic threat as it approaches Brisbane and Gold Coast.

Damaging winds, heavy rain, and dangerous surf are developing. As Alfred nears landfall, flash flooding, and coastal inundation are likely from Thursday into Friday.

Seems Cyclone Alfred can’t make up its mind. Folks in Brisbane are treating it like the end of days, but I reckon it’s a mix of catastrophe daydreaming, safety paranoia, and a sneaky bid for a long weekend.
