Oh so I get 24 hours notice that 11 people coming round for Christmas lunch? Hmm grill fired up but didn’t clear out the grease tray. After grease fire finally went out, succeeded in everyone leaving by 6pm to go lie down with movies and food coma. Excellent Christmas!

Shout out to bull barbecues as well. Got much worse than that photo. Good reminder to all! Clean yer trays out and keep bicarb to hand just in case!

Was there a proper risk assessment carried out prior to commencement🤔.

I will be filing a report to the HSE first thing in the morning😜.

Actually kind of was. I was cleaning stuff yesterday when found out had to cook. Friend was over and we did the whole traditional make risk assessment. It was actually me that suggested it should be cleaned before both of us reached consensus that it was fine.

The best thing is I decided to get a gas ring going and got a reminder that shit always goes wrong in the tropics. The gas bottles have these push fit regulators and the pin is not functioning so if I take connector off, gas leaks. Basically did Christmas with a rather hot grease fire and a potential fucking bomb in the garden!

Traditional male (sic)

So. Could have been much worse then, well done Sir🫡.

Headline in The Costa Rica Daily Post.

"Brit Fool Kills 11 At Ill Though Out BBQ",

Headline averted😬.

Family in The North West, relieved😜.

No loss of life is definitely a win really. Considering my best effort (admittedly wasn’t JUST me) was a flame (generally controlled) that was visible for 23 miles, my involvement with any fires should be considered potentially dangerous

Gas/oil flares AND a BBQ, what could possibly go wrong😬😎.

They can be pretty impressive to say the least. High pressure accelerants!

Where i used to work, we used to occasionally see one from the Essar oil refinery, that was probably 5 or 6 miles away, as the crow flies. An impressive sight!!

When it’s a pretty big one for a well test, it’s actually the noise that really gets you if relatively close. I was trying to find a picture of a radial diffused flare for well test. They’re stunning but failed am afraid. Saw one once about 15m across of a load of jets of fire. Hmm gonna go look in some old folders and see if I can dig it up

Please do😬, I'm not familiar with them🤔.

When I did my emergency response team training, we were shown videos of a tanker that experienced a BLEVE💣. You don't want to be near one of those😳😂.

Total fail but found this on the internet. This is what am talking about: https://www.airpacbukom.com/markets/well-testing

6.2 MMbtu of steam.

Child's play, whatever that means🤷🏻‍♂️😂😜.

6,200,000 btu of steam? If 1btu is enough to raise temperature of 1lb of water by 1deg F, them technically, 6.2mmbtu is a “fuck ton of energy”

💣💣💣💣💣.

TBH, I'm glad I'm out of the chemical industry now. Some of the stuff we had to deal with was really quite nasty and if things went wrong, which they occasionally did, things could get quite hairy!

I fully understand that. It’s also relying on others as well. Regardless how much you know and if you don’t screw up, shit can go sideways in those environments and I had some uncomfortable situations

Yep🙏🏻.

Had everyone at lifeboats once with so much gas coming out that entire drill ship was shaking. That’s one massive boat. Very humbling experience. Stupid thing was it should never have happened. Left instructions at end of shift, went to bed. Got up and checked with people and they’d not followed. Went to guy in charge and told him to stop ops until we verified. He wouldn’t. Bloody stupid. When drilling in deep water, the barrier to shut off the well is on the sea bed. If gas gets into the riser connecting boat to the well, there’s no way to block it off. Gas doubles in size every meter it rises. When water depth is over 1000m, it just doesn’t take that much. Mental stuff

Wowzers! Similar thing happened on Piper Alpha with a shitty handover, that one REALLY didn't end well☹️.

Exactly. With those volumes of flammables and those pressures, it’s quick too. Have friends who worked on the deep water horizon. That was nuts too. Tragic

Yes, that was another bad one, with a multi zillion dollar clean up bill!!

One of the craziest thing with that cost was the comment from Chevron CEO at senate hearings where he said they might want to at least be thankful that it was BP so they could actually afford it. I was working for another major at the time and holy shit did they become more conservative. They’d worked out there were only 3 oil companies big enough to survive that. We were not one of them!

Madness. Equally so, how have we descended into this, from a lovely tropical Christmas BBQ note🤔😂.

Everything escalating quickly these days, might as well do it conversation. So like we started with this small fire man, it was just in this bbq but shit man, before we knew it, oil rigs was blowing up and wildfires was spreadin round the world.

Well, quite😬😎.
