Well, yeah. We've watched Republicans line up to swallow the Big Lie, despite all evidence to the contrary proving that it was a free and fair election. It's understandable that we want something done about rampant bullshit spreading online, which many susceptible people apparently will accept as truth, before we end up with no democracy at all.

What exactly do you mean when you say “we want something done about the rampant bullshit spreading online?”
Censorship is a knife that cuts both ways and leaves everyone bleeding.
A few thoughts:
You can't stop bullshit from spreading on the internet, unless you turn it off completely... somehow. Even if you turn the whole world into a north korea with chinese tech capabilities you won't be able stop the bullshit.
"We have to kill our democracy in order to save it."
"People are so stupid that we need to select a few people to rule them all."
"People are so stupid we need a bunch of people to tell them what they can or can't see, hear or think."
I grew up in a socialist authoritarian country where the party tried to control everything. And guess what? They created their own bullshit reality, forced it on everyone and it still didn't work.
It didn't work on any level except it made everyone suffer while wasting the potential of millions by not allowing them to do what they are best at and making everyone poor in the process.
You can't censor your way to freedom.
