The less expectations, the better
Expect absolutely nothing; moreso expect an awful experience
Be kind, quiet & have them talk about themselves the whole date.

Of course, pay for the date (imo)
This I found sets the bar low enough that I'm not expecting anything, but making sure also regardless how bad the date goes, the other person feels heard, respected and enjoys the experience.
