To be clear, I'm not against people making parodies or fan-fics of Star Trek, as long as they're not passing themselves off *as* Star Trek. If I want to watch a parody, I'll watch The Orville, or Space Quest, which are hilarious. Or I could watch Lower Decks, although I don't due to the first episode being cringeworthy drivel.

There's plenty of great fan-fic too, like the Star Trek Continues series, which is better than some of the sloppier episodes of ST:TOS itself.

But Strange New Worlds is presented as a canon Star Trek show. Season 1 set itself up to be taken seriously, especially with events like the encounter with the Gorn and death of Hemmer. Or Pike's discovery of his fate in the final episode. For it now to turn itself into an Orville-like parody of itself is jarring, and disappointing. I hear I have a Scrubs-style musical episodes to look forward to, on top of this one. Yay.
