Your watch is a totally unnecessary object.

A man once told me you have the watch, but I have the time, referring to my Casio g shock.

If you can’t appreciate the craftsmanship and aesthetic of a good watch, I can’t help you. Do you think art is a shitcoin too?

I appreciate craftsmanship and aesthetics where there is function beyond status. Art has function but sadly the time for watches has come and gone IMHO

What is the function of art?

Communication, documentation, social commentary.. Art enriches life.

I would argue that a watch is just a different form of that. Especially for those that make things with their hands.

It’s ok to like and have watches .. they are just not necessary .. like shitcoins. 😬

Or like a thing you hang on your wall.

While I firmly believe all assets which are not Bitcoin are shitcoins, including most watches…

Some have proof of work.

And the ones that do have outperformed the S&P500 over the past few decades.

I have some that have outperformed bitcoin, and their scarcity insures they’ll continue to grow in importance and value.

There is no real scarcity of plastics, metals, leathers..

it's more about the mechanics i think

which literally sounds like me saying it's about the tokenomics 😂😭

Sounds like something Vitalek might say for sure 😬

We’re not discussing timex here

We are also not talking about de Vinci

Yes, there are timepieces take far more effort and time than De Vinci.

I encourage you to take a loupe and see for yourself. There are basically tiny universes of gears and springs, all bent, shaped, and finished by hand…

That level of detail in that tiny scale is incomparable and extraordinary

I’m happy you like watches. I’m just not convinced. 👍🏼

Hard to be convinced when you haven’t picked up the loupe or been to the factory… but I can respect it’s not an everyone’s thing.

The watch costs somewhere in the area of 18k… and the market value is over 75k.

It is more than the sum of its parts

omg there's a little heart in it

There are meticulous craftsmans’ souls in inside them. The watches that matter can’t be produced in big numbers by machines, only by by hand, and with 💗

Link to watch plz

FP Journe Elegante…

And none of you guys will probably ever get one… (respectfully)

The brand makes 800 watches per year, globally. The demand is 100 times that much, and this model is very limited like all the others

Nope. I’d never spend thousands and thousands of dollars that way.

I have a young baby girl and she’s counting on me. I’m gonna do my best to make sure she never marries any dude with a rare watch collection.

lol. It’s not frivolously spending money. It’s parking your money in an appreciating asset class.

Respectfully again, you are misinformed

Not misinformed. Our values are different. We are not the same.

Good luck! 🤣

If I bought a watch 11 years ago for 12k, and today it’s worth 160k, how are my values off?

I have a dozen pieces, all appreciating year after year…

If I leave my kids a box of watches, never mind bitcoin wallets, I believe they won’t go hungry…

There are liquid markets for both

I can’t see paying 160k for a watch but if it goes from 12k to 160k I would definitely call that a solid investment.

You can play the game at any level…

While you can’t predict tomorrow’s prices today, some are very scarce. Like steel Patek…

And yes, I agree… buying at grey market prices = no thanks. But buying selective pieces, at retail, not frivolous, but intelligent.

Thank you for sharing.
