ok, how big of a lift is qubes os for someone who has limited linux exposure?
the documentation is excellent, and you will want to read it. the forum is very active. it is not as intimidating as people think. 4.2 has really improved the ui ux if you are terminal shy, though you will want to learn more in terminal to get the most out of it. first step is to make sure your hardware is up to par and compatible.

niiice 🔥 make sure to get the bios settings sorted before you install and you're on your way 🤙🏻 what's the ram like?
Only 8gb but will upgrade
cool cool. that'll do for now, but you will be much happier with at least 16, pref 32 which i think is the max on the t460
Thanks, yes t430 = 16gb max
was just about to correct that. yup
awesome! keep us updated with the install 🤙🏻🔥
Of course I buy the one T430 board with VT-d support 🙄 (23426QU)
without vt-d/iommu? the 23426QU it's on the hcl as working but with an installer issue. the fix seems to be here. does it work for you?

Been able to get by in Mac terminal in the past. Lots of fun stuff to explore/transition.
Is there any option other than QubesOS that does this? I know of things like Tails that offer such on a temporary basis.
qubes is best in class, with self-destrcting vms, the ability to connect multiple vpn locations to different qubes, an air-gapped vault eyc etc. and it comes with whonix. i don't know of any competition that comes remotely close
That was my impression too, to the point where there seems to be the only option. Somehow, it bugs me. Not because of Qubes. That project is impressive in many ways. But for the extent/craziness we need to go through. 🤔
