Mad Men had many subplots about advertising crushing free expression. I believe the 'communist agitator' episode of a cop show pissing off a washing machine advertiser is based on a true story. Advertisers want to live in a complete fantasy world where nothing is negative, everything is coming up roses, and death has no dominion.
