depending on the client, check the "feed" section. There's usually an option to change the feed from either "following" "network" or "global"

"Global" isn't bad, it's just unfiltered, 'real-time' notes and other things.

In fact, most major clients have content filters on them, such as nsfw - and I haven't seen anything detrimental (as yet)

Also, Amethyst(android) for example has auto-translate which makes the Global feed more readable and enjoyable.
